Day Two - Waterfall Valley to Windemere - Overland Track - Tasmania

After a light sprinkling of rain overnight and waking to Barn Bluff covered in cloud, we all wondered if Tassie's weather was going to test our gear for waterproofness. We headed off after our "mandatory" group photo. Note the smiling faces as we reassure (from left) Brian, Neil, John, Deb, Simon, Sue, Colin, Helen & Frank that Day 2 is a LOT easier than the climb up to the Cradle plateau.

A side trip to Lake Will was planned and an hour or so later we all met at the junction (with the other 20 or so adventurer we were ??doomed to walk with for the next 6 days) Heaps of track work has been done on the Lake Will track and it is an easy 40 minute walk into this great little spot. By now Barn Bluff was almost cloud free and things were looking up. We wandered around the lake for a while and enjoyed the great little beaches and supurb views up to the Bluff. Picture , right, shows Barn Bluff from Lake Will. Deb, intrepid soul, disappeared for a swim and returned refreshed and, after an hour or so, defrosted!

After a quick "cuppa" and some of our ever present fruitcake we headed off to Lake Windemere and our camp for that night. A few of us braved the waters and had a fantastic swim and frollick later in the afternoon. A great way to finish off a very enjoyable day. A huge cookup of STEAK followed for most of us and with about 6 pocket rockets burning away we dined in style. Bloody hell, a red wine would have gone down well then......

Below are John, Simon, Colin and Deb cooking dinner in Windemere Hut. Through the door is the sleeping area. Nice hut.
