Overland Track - Day One - Ronny Creek to Waterfall Valley

Well, the 9 of us finally made it to Cradle Mountain ready to start the Overland Track for my (Frank's) 50th birthday. We had our usual fast and furious trip up to the mountain with Simon from the Tasmanian Tour Company and following some significant stuffing around with our lost (left on the bus) wallet Sue and I set off up the Horse Track and across to Waterfall Valley Hut. Many, many thanks to Dianne for sending the wallet to Hobart - she is a legend

As was to become normal for this trip, Simon, Helen, Neil, Deb, Colin, Brian and John were all spread out in front of us. Some of them would never learn that it is the JOURNEY not the destination that is important! Simon, Helen and Neil scaled Cradle Mountain as the rest of us wandered (or jogged) into Waterfall Valley to a great reception by our camp host - "Ranger Miles".

Now Ranger Miles took her role seriously and had Waterfall Valley running like clockwork. Her possum and currawong pack and food protection talk was one of the highlights of the trip!!

The "hutties" Simon, Deb, Colin, John and Brian set themselves up as the "tenties" found a great little spot in a crowded camping area. This gave us the opportunity to check out several of our track companions for the next few days and unfairly categorise them as wankers or not! As you can see from the pic at the right , wilderness does not mean loneliness (unfortunately)

A huge fresh meat dinner was enjoyed by everyone and not long after dark this happy group of hikers hit the sack ready for a nice gentle day wandering in this beautiful part of the world.
