Winter in Tasmania - Snow on the Arm River and Overland Track

Hiking in Tasmania in the snow?
Climbing Pelion East to see the spectacular views of Mount Ossa, Barn Bluff and Cradle Mountain covered in snow?
Waking at Pelion Hut to see Mt Oakleigh and the button grass plain dusted in snow?
Winter hits Tasmania and the Cradle Mountain Lake St Clair National Park.

Mt Ossa from Pelion East

Winter has hit Southern Australia with a vengeance in the last few days and Nick, a member of the Bushwalk Tasmania forum, posted some fantastic pictures of a walk he did into Pelion Hut via the Arm River track early this month. He has kindly agreed to us posting his terrific pictures here for Our Hiking Blog readers to enjoy.

We were in this area during winter last year when we hiked from the Walls of Jerusulam to Cradle Mountain via the Never Never. Unfortunately there was only minimal snow and we spent a lot of time slipping on ice rather than using our snow shoes and heading across virgin snow.

Nick was lucky enough to get a fresh dump of snow for his short trip into Pelion Hut via the Arm River track. As you can see from his pictures, it is a beautiful area to hike any time of the year.

Remember, the Bushwalk Tasmania forum is a fantastic community that love discussing all things bushwalking (especially in Tasmania.) Check it out and join up, it is a great place.
